Report from ASPIRE 2012, Osaka, Japan

The 4thAsia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (ASPIRE) Congress was held in Osaka International Convention Center, Osaka, Japan, from the 31st of August until September 2nd, 2012. The event was organized in a perfect manner, with the best lecturers, and goes within the scheduled time.

The first day was the pre-congress day with the 2 pre-congress courses available, writing a manuscript workshop and investigation of commonality of reproductive cell going through evolution. It was followed by the congress’ opening ceremony, which wasstarted in the afternoon of the August 31st.

Firstly, Prof. Yoshiharu Morimoto welcome the participants and the speakers of the event by giving an opening speech followed by giving the Appreciation Praise Award to the founder of ASPIRE; Prof. PC Wong, Prof. Shin-Yong Moon, and Prof. Bruno Lunenfeld. ASPIRE 2012 also gave the Appreciation Praise for Friendship for ASRM board member. The opening ceremony was then continued with a great lecture about “50 years of clinical use of gonadotropins – what did we learn” given by Prof. Bruno Lunenfeld.

The congress was then continued in the next 2 days with series of great lectures given by well-known speakers from all areas of reproductive medicine. There were also several oral presentations given by practitioners working in the field of reproduction, specifically infertility and menstrual disorders, from several countries throughout Asia Pacific.

The exhibition area consisted of several pharmaceutical companies promoting their products as well as there were 2 booths from Brisbane as a host for ASPIRE Congress 2014, and Indonesia as one of 2 countries bidding to be the host of ASPIRE Congress 2016. The posters presentations were also presented here in the exhibition area.

By the end of the 1st congress day, a general assembly was held to hear the board member reports about what have ASPIRE done in the last 2 years, as well as the bidding result for the host of ASPIRE Congress 2016. From this meeting, the board member has suggested that Jakarta, Indonesia to host the ASPIRE Congress 2016. The general assembly approved the suggestion.

The second day of the congress was full with lectures given by invited speakers as well as the presenters submitted their work. It was ended with a closing ceremony attended by the participants and closed with an invitation to come to the next meeting that will be held in Brisbane, Australia.
